A CUNARD CHRISTMAS CRUISE

The Grand Lobby, Queen Elizabeth

On the 19th December I returned from a three night cruise to Bruges, Belgium onboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth. It was my first experience with Cunard and one I leave with fond memories of.
Here's an overview of what you can expect on this beautiful and classy ship during the festive season.

Cunard Queen Elizabeth Grand Lobby

First impressions once onboard in Southampton were very good - there was even champagne on ice waiting in my cabin.

The grand lobby mid-ship is a spectacular space and it was great to see Cunard have really got into the festive spirit with garlands, trees and poinsettia plants filling the public areas.

The weather wasn't amazing (after all it's mid-December), but the cold and drizzle didn't seem to discourage some from enjoying the pool, jacuzzis or a game of bowls on deck.

Inside, the glitsy Queen's Room on deck two hosts discos, parties and balls in the evening with live bands.

By day you can come here to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with white glove service. I was very eager to experience this for myself on my second sailing day at 3:30pm.

If you cruise, be sure to arrive early as queues will build quickly. It was indeed scrumptious and the attentive waiters did their best to accommodate the full room of people as quickly as possible.

If you simply want to enjoy the tea at your leisure, you also have the option to help yourself in the lido buffet around the same time.

In the Queen's Room, I was also really impressed by a huge gingerbread village display by the staff onboard - a fantastically festive touch!

The Britannia restaurant venue is art-deco inspired and exudes charm and glamour. The atmosphere, table settings and personal service made for a very enjoyable and elegant evening dinner.

I think Cunard's elegance and traditional style matches the time of year perfectly, Christmas is all about throwbacks and nostalgia.
