How to have the perfect first day on a cruise ship

Princess Cruises Caribbean Princess

Stepping onboard a cruise ship is always an exciting moment as a whole new world of possibilities open up to you. I recently explored Caribbean Princess just after the ship received a huge multi-million pound makeover and have come up with a plan for the perfect first day onboard.

World Fresh Marketplace
Replacing Horizon Court Buffet, the fresh and modern marketplace has all the makings of an impeccable lunch. This stylish self-service area has a little bit of everything; scrumptious cakes, hand-crafted sandwiches and carved meats with all the trimmings to name a few.

The Spa & Sanctuary
The Spa and Sanctuary are adult only retreats at the front of the ship where you can escape the hustle of bustle and relax after a filling lunch. Not only can you take advantage of any special first day offers, you also have first pick of pamper sessions that fill up faster on sea days.

The Sail-Away
You're on holiday so start as you mean to go on by toasting the sail away with your favourite tipple. There's plenty of bars onboard Caribbean Princess including the exotic Explorers Bar, Club Fusion and nautical Wheelhouse Bar.

I really like the amphitheatre-like design at the back of the ship that's flanked by a children's outdoor play area. I think lounging near the pool around here would be my choice to enjoy the ship's departure with family.

Find Your 'Spot'
There's always a place you return to frequently on a cruise ship, be it The Piazza seating (pictured below) where you can people watch over a coffee, or the poolside Calypso Bar. The first day is all about exploring the ship and seeing what works for you.

Dining Options
Caribbean Princess has seven new dining options, including the speciality restaurants Steamers Seafood and family-style Planks BBQ. Italian restaurant Sabatini's (below) also has received a face lift, along with poolside Slice (formerly Pizzeria) that claims to the serve the best pizza at sea!

For the perfect first evening out, see what restaurant offers one of your favourite dishes or cuisines and don't look back, your first and last meal onboard should be the most memorable... and indulgent!

The Welcome Show
With 3,000 guests onboard the theatre will fill up fast, so make sure you're there pronto to meet some of the cruise ship staff and enjoy the finest view of all the entertainment. Families may also wish to explore the revitalised Treehouse, Lodge and Beach House facilities and their youth programmes.

As the sun begins to set, head to the Sky Deck and be whisked across a moving walkway to the ship's nightclub. I think finishing your day here under the disco lights is the perfect end to the perfect first day onboard Caribbean Princess.

Have a look at my must do's onboard sister ship Emerald Princess.

I was invited onboard Caribbean Princess for the purpose of this article, all opinions are my own.
