If you’ve been to Newport, South Wales recently you’ll notice there’s lots changing around John Frost’s Square at the moment.
One place that’s been a staple for years to both me and locals is the cosy café and delicatessen in the northern corner.
Bar Piazza is run by an Italian family who are as warm and inviting as their frothy coffee in freezing winter.
It’s a year round slice of mediterranean splendour, with a variety of cheeses, chutneys, pastas and sauces on sale to spice up your home cooking.
The Café’s menu suits all tastes; my sweet tooth loves their carrot cake, almond croissant and of course, hot chocolate with a generous coating of whipped cream (above). If I’m in a savoury mood, a baguette, panini or sandwich with a vast range of fillings is a must – fresh and tasty every time!
The café also has a specials board with seasonal treats including; summery salads, sweet smoothies and hearty soups – gluten and dairy free options are also available.
On a recent lunch time visit, the place was thriving with people of ALL ages. There’s a real sense of community spirit here, customers will engage with one another and joke with the owner’s.
I always leave feeling cheery and full to the brim, which is why my family (and many others) return regularly.
When you’re next in Newport, give it a try if you haven’t already (take out available if you’re in a rush)!
It’s important to support local independent traders like this, it’s a unique gem in the heart of an up and coming commercial area (below: nearby Friars Walk development).
Thanks very much Bar Piazza, you really are fantastico!
