On the corner of Penarth’s quaint shopping arcade is the Celtic Lounge, a cosy café that has an impressive menu including burgers, cakes, soups, sandwiches and spuds. It’s no wonder it was so busy, there’s something to suit all tastes here.
After much deliberation I went for a classic ham, cheese and onion toasted sandwich with salad and coleslaw, drizzled in a mouthwatering honey and mustard sauce.
My good friend Miss Nicklin opted for a tantalising (and generously sized) salad.
There’s also a sweet offer available here, cake and coffee for £2.95 after 3pm!
Seeing as it had not long past the hour when enjoying my final crunchy bite, it would be rude not to take up the offer – right?!
Above is the Celtic Lounges red velvet cake with a soft creamy frosting. With two forks at the ready, it was mere moments before the slice ceased to exist between us.
It also went down a treat with my indulgent hot chocolate with cream.
The lounge is full of quirky decorations and signage. Even though I was guilty of Snap-chatting away my dining experience, I loved the sentiment of this quote (below left), a fun poke at our world’s internet obsession.
It also shows the lounge is the perfect place to catch up and enjoy the present moment with your nearest and dearest.
If you go to Penarth and try the Lounge, I’d certainly recommend taking up the very reasonable tea and cake offer, the service was lovely too!
There’s so many other cafés around here that I’d also love to try, any suggestions welcome!
I was a paying diner and all opinions are my own.
