Park Plaza Cardiff’s popular Laguna Kitchen & Bar offers Afternoon Tea for all tastes and occasions, and this season they’ve teamed up with Hendrick’s Gin to bring a refined and refreshing ‘G & Tea’ experience that’ll certainly put a spring in your step!
I was invited to review Park Plaza’s Afternoon Tea on Monday, here’s what I thought…
Located near the New Theatre, Cardiff Castle and the high street, this hotel is not only a convenient spot for a spot of tea, it also serves as a fantastic base if you wish to stay and explore the area for a few days.
The decor inside is very chic and modern, yet the simmering wood fires and ambient lighting make it feel very intimate and cosy.
On arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, seated promptly and teased myself with the menu while our cocktail was freshly “brewed”.
The cocktail is served in a teapot, a very elegant and English way to enjoy the beverage (pinkies up, of course).
Made with Hendrick’s gin, elderflower, lemon juice and soda water, it’s very light, refreshing and fragrant. It also had a light fizz with a flavour I’d compare to parma violets – I’d really recommend trying it, especially with some sliced cucumber.
I also really liked how the tea cups had their own quote on them, a little touch that’ll certainly strike up some conversation.
Accompanying the cocktail was a three-tier stand of sandwiches, sweet treats and scones.
We had four thick and fluffy finger sandwiches each that included; ham, egg, cucumber and salmon (if you have a dietary preference they can accommodate).
The top tier had a great selection of bite-size nibbles. The french macaroon and opera slice were scrumptious, as was the strawberry tart filled with a runny custard sauce (another nod to the summer season).
During the warmer month’s you can also enjoy this afternoon tea out on the terrace with a view of the park. I think this is a great way to unwind after loosing yourself in the local art gallery and shopping arcades.
Before we tucked into the lime jelly, we savoured the sweet taste of our sultana scone, served with a generous amount of jam, clotted cream and butter.
The lime jelly was topped with a cucumber slice and chantilly cream, a lovely taste and texture to finish the tea with.
The atmosphere in the Laguna Bar is very relaxed, you may find yourself lingering over the bar with another cocktail or coffee before you enjoy an evening in the cosmopolitan capital of Wales.
The Hendrick’s Afternoon Tea is served between 2:30-5:30pm daily, for more information click here.
Did you know, they also do a Gentleman’s Tea? I think this would be another perfect option to consider for Father’s Day, birthdays or for those fancying something new.
