The Celebrity Cup 2016, The Celtic Manor Resort Hotel

Over the 9th and 10th July, twenty six stars and hundreds of spectators packed onto The Celtic Manor Resort’s famous golf course for the annual Celebrity Cup golf tournament.

I blogged about this popular charity event last July – it’s a fun day out for the family and this year had plenty of drama and suspense right up until the final tee.

For extra insight of this exciting event, take a look at the short video above I created under Nutty Pear with Miss Nicklin

For those unfamiliar with the Celebrity Cup, the stars are divided into their home teams of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and battle it out over two days with nine tees to conquer.
It’s a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the stars (including; Denise van Outen, Mike Tindall, Rob Brydon and Ioan Gruffudd) who were happy to sign autographs and take selfies. There’s also an evening Gala Dinner with a charity auction and interviews with the celebrities.

Some of the other event offerings include an Elemis Spa bus, children’s activities, live music and a food and drink marquee featuring pan-asian cuisine from Larkin Cen.

Last year Wales were victorious, and after the recent sporting success of the Welsh football team at the Euros (Gareth Bale was a participant last year), the home crowd were hoping for repeated success this year.

Unfortunately that wasn’t to be as Scotland and Ireland were the final two, and for the first time ever drew in the last round! This called for a thrilling sudden death situation with the closest team to the hole being crowned winner.

The underdogs Ireland have never won a Celebrity Cup tournament and had extra players to will them on. It was, however, a fantastic final shot from Scotland that secured their victory – and came only moments after a Wimbledon win for fellow Scotsman Andy Murray!
