Returning to The Celtic Manor Resort in July was the popular Celebrity Cup golf tournament. Over the course of 2 days, 24 celebrities including football superstar Gareth Bale represented their home nations in front of hundreds of spectators.
Last year’s winners Team Scotland, captained again by Rugby’s Rory Lawson, attempted to hold on to their title against England, Ireland and Wales.
Team Wales also welcomed back familiar faces to the event, including Sir Gareth Edwards, Captain Rob Brydon and TV presenter Gethin Jones.
Around the Food Village families enjoyed picnics, processo and ice cream in the sunshine or headed in the Marquee to try some of Larkin Cen‘s pop up menu. The Red Arrows also performed an exhilarating fly-past each day.
Young kids inspired by the Celebrities could give the sport a try with the Golf Development Wales team who were on hand all weekend.
The event is a cool opportunity to get up close with your favourite TV stars like Anton Du Beke (Team England) who was always happy to take selfies with fans and sign autographs. The crowd was delighted by his theatre on the course and banter with hosts Chris Hollins and Mark Foster.
A star studded Gala dinner on Saturday night raised even more money for the charity event, as well as celebrity interviews and live music.
The final day saw Team England, lead by Mike Tindall, battle it out against Scotland for victory.
This meant Wales would face Ireland (celebrities included Ronan Keating and James Nesbit) in the final round. Even though victory was denied for the home team, the celebrities thanked everyone for a fantastic weekend and suggested it was the best year so far.
It was England who eventually succeeded after some fantastic golf from Denise van Outen and Bradley Walsh who cooly putted the ball in on the last hole to rapturous applause.
