As Christmas rapidly approaches there’s little time left to organise a get-together with family, friends or colleagues. Never fear, below is a list of some of the city’s brightest and best businesses and events this festive season.

GREY*

Once occupied by Razzi, Grey takes up residence in the Hilton, but it is in-fact a self contained restaurant with doors opening onto Kingsway for walk-ins. They’re passionate about producing simple, well-made dishes using as much locally sourced ingredients as possible. First impressions will evoke a sense of elegance and class, yet the atmosphere is quite relaxed and friendly.

The menu is also rather tempting with a Bottomless Prosecco brunch, Cefn Mawr Sirloin Steak and Ty Gwyn Cider Steamed Mussels all being epic options for a festive feast. They’ve also collaborated with local distillery Eccentric Gin for their cocktails – be sure to try the unique, herbal-led Cardiff Dry! You can explore more of their menu by clicking here.

DIRTY MARTINI*

Dirty Martini occupies a huge space on St Mary’s Street with a stylish bar and sophisticated feel throughout. To soak up the spirit of the season they’ve introduced a Christmas cocktail masterclass, beginning with a fruity Bellini on arrival and a festive food platter for after – more information available here.

ESCAPE REALITY CARDIFF*

Perhaps not the first place you’d think of for a seasonal soiree, Escape Reality is a fun-filled adventure for friends and family to conquer. I was invited to try their Jungala room (like living out a round of Jumanji) and there’s currently six themed rooms to try at varying degrees of difficulty. Gift certificates are also available as a potential stocking filler, find out more here.

CHAI STREET*

Much loved by locals and Cardiff foodies, Chai Street has now opened a second location in the heart of the city on High Street. The launch party revealed why it’s so popular; wonderfully cooked food by passionate people and a cheery, carnival-like atmosphere with bunting and bongo drums.
Chai Street is perfect for a winter warm-up with friends after some city sightseeing or last minute Christmas shopping.

WINTER WONDERLAND

One of the most obvious choices for a gleeful gathering is Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, located outside City Hall. It’s not hard to see why with the large undercover ice rink, ferris wheel and cosy chalet. You can explore more of this year’s Winter Wonderland by clicking here.

CHRISTMAS MARKET

Lining the high street are 80 wooden stalls filled with a mix of gifts, crafts and tempting treats. Hungry shoppers will no doubt succumb to the smell of the smoked german sausages, Nutella-filled crêpes and piping hot mulled wine.

TREETOP ADVENTURE GOLF

Tucked away above St David’s 2 Shopping Centre is an indoor mini golf oasis. Ideally positioned right next to the car park, friends from near or far can convene for some light-hearted competition.
They cater for up to 60 people and have three festive packages available, featuring a complimentary drink and mince pies. Fancy a tropical celebration this Christmas, click here for information.

THE ST DAVID’S HOTEL

If you want to make your get together really special, head to St David’s Hotel restaurant.
Dishes this year include a Welsh turkey roulade, Roasted organic vegetables and wild mushroom bake, Welsh whiskey crème brûlée, and Bara Brith bread and butter pudding. Click here to book a table.
