Plush interior of the Mulberry Bar at The Celtic Manor

The Mulberry Bar brings an extra touch of luxury and elegance to The Celtic Manor’s growing bar and restaurants offerings. Afternoon Tea is already popular at the resort in South Wales (particularly in The Olive Tree), and so they’ve reimagined it to fit the sumptuous style of Mulberry Bar.

My experience was complimentary for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are my own.

The Mulberry Bar is located in the Main Hotel just to the left of the atrium and next to The Olive Tree restaurant. Specialising in cocktails, wine and cheese, the bar staff are on hand to entertain and educate with their theatrical cocktail making that fuses flavours from across the world together.

The setting is chic with regal colours of gold and purple. The crystal chandeliers, beaded drapes and crushed velvet chairs wouldn’t look out of place in an Arabian palace. The outdoor terrace with log burners provide the perfect setting for a sultry summer evening.

Even by day the lighting is warm and glowy, the low tables, booths and high backed chairs provide more privacy and a relaxed lounge-like dining experience.

The Mulberry Bar Afternoon Tea has a further twist, you choose a cocktail to enjoy in between the courses of savouries and sweets, as well as a freshly brewed tea.

The Jaffa Cake‘ is a sweet-tooth’s dream made with Chase orange gin, marmalade vodka and Cointreau. ‘Tea Collins‘ (above) is a more fragrant tipple with raspberry liquorice and lavender tea and Gordon’s sloe gin.

The Mulberry Bar Afternoon Tea arrives in courses on an elegant glass tray. The Verrine of cauliflower cheese (topped with Welsh rarebit) is a warm appetiser to whet the appetite.

The ‘Sublime Savouries‘ pair beautifully made canapés with traditional finger sandwiches. The dessert or ‘Pastry Perfection‘ course is delivered in a similar fashion alongside warm raisin scones incased in a glass dome.
